The most common error when using POP3 with Gmail is that users forget to adjust the "Forwarding and POP" settings to correct values. Here is a screenshot of the settings:
In the POP Download section, make sure "Enable POP for all mail" is selected.
Also, for "when messages are accessed with POP", make sure the "keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox" is selected.
